April’s style calendar was mostly the desert. Coachella ran two weekends, and W Magazine’s verdict was that the performers “took it to another level” on the clothes. Around it, a designer-house chairman stepped aside, and one of music’s great style icons fronted a denim campaign with her whole family. Here are the seven moments worth remembering, in the order they happened.
April 10: Sabrina Carpenter Wears Dior for a Headline Movie

Jonathan Anderson’s custom Dior wardrobe took Carpenter through four changes, from a red peacoat and sequined mini to a corseted black lace bodysuit with a sculptural cape, all built around Old Hollywood. Vogue called the gold chiffon-sleeved minidress “very Cher, very Studio 54.” Full story.
April 10: Stefano Gabbana Steps Down as Dolce & Gabbana Chairman

The company confirmed on a Friday that Gabbana, 63, had left his oversight roles effective Jan. 1, and that Alfonso Dolce, Domenico’s brother, became chairman later that month, per the AP. Dolce & Gabbana called it “a natural evolution of its organizational structure and governance.” Gabbana stays in his creative role. The AP noted he had been at February’s runway show, where the house’s longtime muse Madonna sat front row and both founders walked her backstage.
April 10: KATSEYE Debuts at Coachella in La Lune

KATSEYE’s Coachella debut came in La Lune, and W’s two-weekend look roundup singled the group out. Firstclasse said they returned for the second set in fully bespoke Agro Studio looks that were lingerie-inspired, in nudes, pinks, bustles, patterns and feathers.
April 11: Justin Bieber Headlines in a Pink Hoodie and Baggy Shorts

W said Bieber placed himself at the opposite end from Carpenter. He started the set in an oversize pink hoodie, baggy shorts by Lu’u Dan and Loewe Bobby boots, then removed the sweatshirt to reveal a cropped gray tee, a “Bieber-level ‘reveal.’” For weekend two he swapped to a Greg Ross sleeveless zip-up and tan boots.
April 14: Lauryn Hill Fronts Denim Tears With Her Children

Denim Tears’ black-and-white campaign puts Hill in the brand’s cotton-wreath denim next to Zion, Selah, YG Marley, John, Sara and Micah, shot by Liam MacRae. It is built around lineage and closeness, per Hypebeast. Full story.
April 17: Madonna Returns to Coachella, and Loses Her Clothes

Madonna joined Carpenter for “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” in a purple look that W said repeated the corset, boots and Gucci jacket from her 2006 set. Three days later she said the archive pieces had gone missing and offered a reward. Full story.
April 17: Lisa Joins Anyma in Iris van Herpen

On weekend two, Lisa made a surprise entrance for “Bad Angel” in a custom Omen gown by Iris van Herpen, the Dutch couture house known for fusing fashion and technology, per Firstclasse. Anyma, whose weekend-one set was canceled, finally wore his all-white Vetements look, W said.
