Megan Thee Stallion is going to the theater. On Thursday (Feb. 26), the Houston rapper was announced as the newest star of Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway, where she’ll play Zidler, the cabaret’s owner and master of ceremonies, from March 24 through May 17, Rolling Stone reported.

The role has been rewritten for her. Pitchfork noted that the character is now the mononymic Zidler rather than Harold Zidler, and a statement obtained by The New York Times said “a hint” of Megan’s music will be added to the show’s 70-song jukebox score, which already runs from the Rolling Stones to OutKast to Britney Spears. Danny Burstein originated the part and won a Tony for it. Tituss Burgess, Boy George and Wayne Brady have since played it, per Rolling Stone, and she will perform in every show on those dates except May 2.

I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively, and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.

Lead producer Carmen Pavlovic said the show wants to go out with “a spectacular bang” and called Megan “the force of nature to lead us there.” Moulin Rouge! is set to end its Broadway run on July 26.

It’s the second big acting turn in a week. On Monday (Feb. 23), NBC gave The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins a one-hour premiere event, and Megan guest stars as Denise, a recently divorced mom who sparks a flirtation with Daniel Radcliffe’s character, per Revolt, citing Billboard. Tracy Morgan plays a disgraced former NFL star in the Tina Fey and Robert Carlock-produced comedy. Rolling Stone said it was unclear how many episodes she appears in.

She is not coming to either from nowhere. Her credits include Dicks: The Musical, Good Girls and P-Valley, and she hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live in 2022. Her most recent album is 2024’s Megan, followed by the deluxe Megan: Act II that year and one-off singles last year, Pitchfork noted. She is also a former Best New Artist Grammy winner, a club Olivia Dean joined the same month.

Her music was still to come: in September she revived her Tina Snow alter ego on “Tina Tuesday Freestyle”.
