Rent’s 30th anniversary concert just got three more marquee names. Taye Diggs, Neil Patrick Harris and Rachel Zegler are joining the Oct. 26 benefit at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, along with Norbert Leo Butz, Rolling Stone reports. They’ll share the stage with original cast members including Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Daphne Rubin-Vega.
It’s a one-night concert of the full show, performed on the Hamilton set for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, with more than 60 performers. Diggs, who played Benny in the original Broadway cast, is one of three newly added original company members, alongside Timothy Britten Parker and Byron Utley, per TheaterMania. The rest of the bill includes Renée Elise Goldsberry, Aaron Tveit and Jordan Fisher.

The music will be played live. Tim Weil, the show’s original music director, returns to lead original band members Kenny Brescia, Jeff Potter and Daniel A. Weiss, with Steve Gelfand joining them, and original director Michael Greif is back to direct it, per Broadway Cares. Rent is Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical, loosely inspired by the opera La bohème.
Greif said in a statement when the concert was first announced: “Jonathan wrote Rent in honor of the people he knew who were living and struggling with HIV and in honor of the many friends and contemporaries he lost to AIDS.” The poster was designed by Naomi Mizusaki, who created the show’s first ad, and Drew Hodges, who led its original design team. “I really wanted to make something that has the spirit of the original, something as disruptive as the first,” Hodges said.
Musical theater keeps pulling in pop names. Carly Rae Jepsen’s 10 Things I Hate About You musical is headed to Broadway next year, per Pitchfork, and Megan Thee Stallion made her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge!.
In-person seats are sold out, but the show streams worldwide until 11 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Broadway Direct is also running a digital lottery for 24 seats in the theater’s boxes, with entries open until 2 p.m. ET today (Oct. 20), a nod to the rush system Rent started, Rolling Stone notes. The Gates Foundation will match donations from every livestream purchase up to $525,600, the number of minutes in a year and a figure Rent fans know from “Seasons of Love.”
