February is short, but it has the most crowded calendar of the winter. The month opens with the Grammys, hands the nation to the Super Bowl on the 8th with the Winter Olympics running underneath it, and then drops a Valentine’s weekend full of romance, heists and an animated basketball movie before Ghostface closes it out.
We picked eight picks from the previews at the AV Club, Tom’s Guide, TVLine and Rotten Tomatoes, in release order. Dates are U.S. The Grammys on Feb. 1 come first on the calendar and are covered separately.
The Muppet Show (Disney+ and ABC, Feb. 4): a one-hour return, with Sabrina Carpenter
Kermit and the gang go back to the original Muppet Theatre for a one-hour variety special, with Sabrina Carpenter, Seth Rogen and Maya Rudolph as guests. Rotten Tomatoes lists it as a February 4 premiere. The pitch, per Tom’s Guide:
music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue

Winter Olympics (Feb. 6–22) and Super Bowl LX (Feb. 8): the two-week sports takeover
The Milano Cortina Winter Olympics start Feb. 6 on NBC’s networks and Peacock, with the opening ceremony airing at 2 p.m. ET on NBC. Two days later it’s Super Bowl LX on NBC and Peacock, in a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, where, Tom’s Guide notes, Seattle is the favorite behind an elite defense and Sam Darnold. The halftime show, headlined by Bad Bunny, is its own story.

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (Netflix, Feb. 12)
The new show from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee is again set in her native Northern Ireland. Tom’s Guide says it follows three childhood friends, Saoirse (Roisin Gallagher), Robyn (Sinéad Keenan) and Dara (Caoilfhionn Dunne), who reunite after the death of the fourth member of their gang and are pulled into a dark mystery. It’s billed as both dangerous and hilarious, and it’s the most likely sleeper of the month.

Wuthering Heights (cinemas, Feb. 13): Fennell’s Valentine’s gothic
Emerald Fennell’s take on Emily Brontë stars Margot Robbie as Catherine and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, and it arrives with a Charli xcx soundtrack. The AV Club sums up the build-up:
Director Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is already tearing BookTok apart

Crime 101 (cinemas, Feb. 13): Hemsworth as an L.A. jewel thief
The AV Club describes a sun-bleached cat-and-mouse thriller: Chris Hemsworth as an ace thief, Mark Ruffalo as the obsessive detective who thinks he has found a weakness in his heists, and Halle Berry as the insurance broker who complicates the plan. It is based on Don Winslow’s 2020 novella.

GOAT (cinemas, Feb. 13): Space Jam meets Zootopia
Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind KPop Demon Hunters, and Stephen Curry team up on an animated basketball comedy about a young goat, Will (voiced by Caleb McLaughlin), who dreams of going pro, the AV Club says. The question is whether he can hang with the fiercest animals on the court.

Bridgerton Season 4, Part 2 (Netflix, end of February)
The second half of the Benedict and Sophie season closes out the story that, per Tom’s Guide, left off with Benedict asking Sophie to be his mistress on the stairs. Expect the fallout from the “maid war” and a resolution to the season’s other romances. Our January guide has the first half.

Scream 7 (cinemas, Feb. 27): Ghostface’s sixth sequel
The month ends on a horror note. After the previous film lost much of its young cast, the AV Club says the franchise leans on its veterans: Sidney (Neve Campbell) and Gale (Courteney Cox) protect Sidney’s daughter (Isabel May) from yet another game with Ghostface. Franchise founder Kevin Williamson directs, his first time behind the camera since 1999’s Teaching Mrs. Tingle. The AV Club’s verdict on the premise:
No matter how many times you unhook the phone, you just can’t get rid of the guy.
