July in fashion started with a wedding and ended with a theme. In between came Paris Haute Couture Week, where musicians took the best seats, and two designer appointments that will shape the next year of red carpets. These are the seven style moments of the month, in the order they happened.
July 3: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Marry in Custom Dior

Swift’s publicist said the couple’s ceremony looks at Madison Square Garden were “created by Christian Dior Haute Couture” and designed by Jonathan Anderson, and that this was “the designer’s first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity.” Dior said both outfits were made in its Avenue Montaigne ateliers; Travis Kelce wore a tailored couture look with custom Louboutin shoes, and Swift added Cartier jewelry. Anderson told WWD: “It was a joy to work with her. We became very good friends.” The dress itself has not been shown. Full story.
July 6: Dior Plants a Couture Forest

Anderson’s Fall 2026 couture show for Dior, three days after the wedding, sent three-dimensional petals, ferns and beaded parasols down the runway on gowns and light suiting, with a Bar jacket in fringe and sheer panels. Sabrina Carpenter wore white with pigtails, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas came in orange and red petals, and the musician Ethel Cain wore the house’s new brown gingham next to Josh O’Connor. Across town at Schiaparelli, Bad Bunny sat in butter-yellow tailoring and a hairy necktie. Our couture week report.
July 7: Chanel Tells a Fairy Tale

Matthieu Blazy’s “Gaby and the Beanstalk” grew from a book of fairy tales in Gabrielle Chanel’s library. “I started to wonder, was Gabrielle Chanel’s life a fairy tale?” he wrote in the show notes. The runway was lined with colorful “toxic” flowers, the minaudières were shaped like bears and hens, and the closing song was “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. Teyana Taylor wore a denim “Canadian tuxedo” that was covered in sequins, Lupita Nyong’o came fresh from the premiere of The Odyssey, and Pedro Pascal brought his sister Lux.
July 8: Balenciaga’s First Couture, in a Heat Wave

Pierpaolo Piccioli’s first couture show for Balenciaga came with Giveon and Cynthia Erivo in the front row, Hudson Williams in a brown suit he later shed down to its tank top, and Teyana Taylor in a milky-brown silk dress with a copper silk press that reached her knees. The designer’s dog, Miranda, got fanned by guests. The collection introduced a bioengineered silk alternative called AMSilk, and Piccioli paired a tank top with taffeta and opera gloves.
July 14: Olivier Rousteing Is Named Rabanne’s Creative Director

The former Balmain designer, who made Beyoncé’s gown for May’s Met Gala, takes over from Julien Dossena, who dressed Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus and Sabrina Carpenter in his 13 years. Rousteing built the “Balmain Army” of celebrities, and he says his plan for Rabanne is to merge its two businesses: “There will be one story line: Fashion and beauty meets each other, that’s gonna be my role,” he told WWD. His runway debut is set for Paris in March. Full story.
July 22: Kate Spade Hires Jonathan Saunders

Weeks after & Other Stories announced he was leaving to move back to the U.S., the Scottish designer became Kate Spade’s executive creative director, starting Aug. 26 at its Hudson Yards headquarters in New York. “Kate Spade is iconic, and it’s an honor to step into a brand that has such a strong identity and deep emotional connections,” he said in the company announcement. He has worked at Alexander McQueen, Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein and Pucci.
July 31: The Met Picks John Galliano

The Costume Institute announced that its 2027 exhibition, and so the theme of the 2027 Met Gala, will be John Galliano: Horizons. The museum says it “will directly address the rupture caused by his antisemitic, racist, and anti-Asian conduct in 2010 and 2011.” The show runs in three “movements” and the gala is Monday, May 3.
