Bad Bunny turned the Super Bowl LX halftime show into a block party for Puerto Rico, and Lady Gaga came to the wedding. At Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday (Feb. 8), between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, he played about 14 minutes of mostly Spanish-language hits, with surprise cameos from Gaga and Ricky Martin.

He skipped the political opener some fans had predicted. Instead the set began with “Tití Me Preguntó” and rolled into “Yo Perreo Sola,” per FOX 5 San Diego, with Bad Bunny wandering through tall grass past a coconut stand, a dominoes table, a taco cart and a wedding that had run so long the kids had fallen asleep on chairs. The staging borrowed from his 30-show Puerto Rico residency, down to the pink casita and the pava hats.

The guests came in two waves. Gaga, in a pale-blue dress, sang a salsa version of “Die With a Smile” and then danced with Bad Bunny into “Baile Inolvidable” at the faux wedding, according to Capital XTRA. Martin later took a verse of “LO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii,” the song that sets Hawaii’s history under U.S. rule beside Puerto Rico’s future. Complex spotted Cardi B, Pedro Pascal, Karol G and Jessica Alba dancing at the casita, and two boxers, Emiliano Vargas and Xander Zayas, staged a mock bout during “Tití Me Preguntó,” per beIN Sports.

The show made its case without a speech. Near the end Bad Bunny said “God bless America,” then named countries across the hemisphere as a procession of flags filed in behind him, with a sign reading “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” The football he had held against his chest was raised to show the words “Together, we are America.”

The moment had been building for a week. A Spanish-language album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, had just won Album of the Year at the Grammys, and at his Feb. 5 press conference he said he never chased either honor. “I just was looking [to] connect with my roots, connect with my people more than ever, connect with myself, connect with my history [and] with my culture,” he said.

Reaction came fast. “That made me feel more proudly American than anything Kid Rock has ever done,” Kacey Musgraves wrote on X, pointing at Turning Point USA’s rival “All-American Halftime Show.” Doechii wrote: “Bad Bunny WOW ! Fucking, WOW. History.” New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted just the song title “NUEVAYoL” and a Puerto Rican flag.

How many people watched, and how the rival show fared, came out the next day. In September the set went on to win a record seven Emmys.
