Tate McRae’s new era starts with a mansion, a yacht and a baby carriage packed with cash. “Housewife,” the lead single from her fourth album, arrived Thursday night (Oct. 15) with a video shot in the south of France, Billboard reports. She struts and dances through it all and, at one point, pushes the carriage herself, per Rolling Stone. Watch it below.
The hook is a mission statement: “I just wanna make a lot of money, be my own housewife.” McRae told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show earlier this month what it’s about:
I’m so excited. I haven’t released in a while, and it’s kind of about a woman who can’t be contained.

The rollout has been a slow burn. She announced the single on Oct. 7 with artwork of herself in a red bikini beside a stroller full of cash and the caption “Housewife. Out 10.15,” followed by a diamond ring emoji, Billboard noted. The word was also hiding in plain sight. It appeared onstage as her headlining Lollapalooza set began in August, the same set that ended with her climbing out of a bath of gold paint. Her fans, she told Fallon, never catch the obvious clues:
My fans in particular, we drop easter eggs all the time and they get none of them.

There’s a lot of momentum behind it. Her last album, So Close to What, opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 177,000 units, and “What I Want,” her duet with Morgan Wallen, became her first Hot 100 No. 1 in May 2025. She later added a No. 3 hit with “Tit for Tat.”
By Sunday, “Housewife” had taken 51% of Billboard’s weekly new-music poll, ahead of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Expectations” remix with Chappell Roan at nearly 35%, Billboard reports. That night (Oct. 18), she gave “Housewife” its first live performance at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, per Men’s Journal.
