Chanel has now shown Matthieu Blazy’s first Métiers d’Art collection twice, and the second time it brought the K-pop stars. On Tuesday (May 26), the house restaged the collection it first unveiled in New York last December at the new Centre Pompidou Hanwha in Seoul’s Yeouido district, with Jennie and G-Dragon, both global ambassadors, leading a guest list that also included Tilda Swinton.
Blazy told Hypebeast and other travelling press why Seoul. “Not that I want to compare New York and Seoul, but for me, it has similar energy,” he said. “There is something very magnetic that is happening in Seoul… I mean it’s really a culture that became global. We all know it. Incredible chefs, incredible food, incredible music. Korean is the third language learned in the USA because of K-pop and movies, and I thought Seoul was the perfect background for this collection.”

The venue was a new museum with its first exhibition dedicated to Cubism, which Blazy tied to the clothes: “Cubism is the representation of a woman or of a man.” The collection itself mixes the 1970s, Art Deco and the present, with animal prints, Spider-Man and Superman looks, a popcorn tweed suit and a tribute to his own dog, per Hypebeast. SCMP said the show opened with a short film of the model Hyunji Shin and the Chanel ambassador Bhavitha Mandava walking into the museum, echoing the New York film in which Mandava enters a subway station.

The guests were the story. Jennie wore a black halter jumpsuit with white trim and gold buttons, and G-Dragon wore sunglasses and a pastel-blue coat printed with a landscape. Starnews listed LE SSERAFIM’s Kazuha, ILLIT’s Wonhee, RIIZE’s Wonbin and the actors Lee Byung-hun, Park Seo-joon, Kim Go-eun and Lee Jung-jae. The Korean daily Sports Khan added DJ Peggy Gou to the list.

Jennie kept going after the show. On May 27 she posted photos of the show and the after-party, where, per Allkpop, she took the stage under red lights in a sparkling custom Chanel look and, according to reports, previewed an unreleased song.
It matters because of what the house is saying about the market. Sports Khan wrote that Chanel choosing Yeouido for a large-scale show attests to Korea’s elevated standing in global luxury. Blazy’s own pitch was cultural: Seoul as a place where music and film have gone global.
Next up, Chanel has confirmed that Blazy’s 2027 Métiers d’Art collection will be unveiled in Rome on Dec. 2. For his other outings, see the Grand Palais show with Jennie and Teyana Taylor and October’s flock of illuminated birds.
