Matthieu Blazy is still building, and he wanted the Grand Palais to say so. For his second ready-to-wear collection at Chanel, shown Monday (March 9), brightly colored cranes rose from a holographic floor, a set the AP read as “a deliberate signal that the construction is ongoing.” Vogue said the theme was “works in progress,” and Jing Daily called the room an industrial “dream workshop.”
The front row was the other spectacle. Jennie, Teyana Taylor, Olivia Dean, Margot Robbie, Oprah, Kylie Minogue and Lily-Rose Depp all turned up, and Vogue sent a photographer, German Larkin, to catch them in their seats. Jennie wore a fully transparent netted skirt suit. Robbie, newly bobbed, kept it casual in a sheer tank and gauzy trousers from the house’s spring 2026 couture collection.

Blazy took his cue from a line attributed to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel: “We need dresses that crawl and dresses that fly.” The AP said the collection played plain against spectacular, with black knit zip-ups, tweed blousons and boxy overshirts that carried little more than four gold buttons to mark them as Chanel. Blazy called the suit “the first brick,” and rebuilt it in silicone-woven fabric and metallic mesh. The Zoe Report counted the skirt suit more than 20 times across the 78 looks.

The boldest move was the waistline. Belts slung to mid-thigh, pleated skirts started where blazers ended, and the references were 1920s flapper by way of today: drop-waisted twinsets and patchwork dresses with floral embroidery. The final stretch brought sequined plaid suits, beaded coats with star-chart embroidery and metallic mesh woven to mimic tweed.
It matters because this was Blazy’s proof of concept. His debut last October drew a standing ovation and a good deal of hype, and the AP noted that this show handled the same ideas “with a discipline his sprawling debut last October sometimes lacked.” The open question, the AP added, is whether the ultra-low waists will land with the clients who fill Chanel’s front rows.
The room seemed convinced. Blazy got another standing ovation, according to The Zoe Report, as models walked a minutes-long finale to Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance.” In October, he came back to the Grand Palais with a flock of illuminated birds. Earlier that week, Off-White staged a Miles Davis tribute, and in May Chanel took the collection to Seoul.
