Charli xcx made a left turn after Brat, and the charts followed her most of the way. Music, Fashion, Film debuts at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 dated Aug. 8, tying the peak of Brat. It moved 75,000 equivalent units in its first week, according to Billboard, making it the highest-bowing new album on the chart. Complex lists the album as one of the year's best and puts it at No. 1 on the U.K. Official Albums Chart too, her second U.K. No. 1 of 2026.

The numbers
What kept it at No. 3 was the competition: Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem, in its 63rd week on the chart, returned to No. 1, and Olivia Rodrigo's You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love held at No. 2. On the sales side it did better. A separate Billboard report says the album debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales with 57,000 copies sold in the week ending July 30, her first No. 1 on that chart and best sales week ever, with No. 1 positions on Vinyl Albums and Indie Store Album Sales as well. It's her fourth Billboard 200 top 10, per Complex, and her second top 10 debut this year after the Wuthering Heights soundtrack opened at No. 8 in February.
What Billboard's staff made of it
Billboard's editors argued over whether 75,000 is a win or a miss. Katie Bain thought No. 3 was about right for the genre.
Given that it's an experimental rock album — not always a barnburner of a genre on this chart — I think No. 3 feels just about right.

Andrew Unterberger went further, saying that “to still get within striking distance of No. 1 with an album like Music, Fashion, Film is a pretty big accomplishment.” Kyle Denis was blunter about why this isn't Brat again: the record, he wrote, lacks “immediate, catchy songs” and a “simple, magnetic aesthetic.” The highest-charting song on the set is “Camera,” which debuted at No. 75 on the Hot 100.
Why it matters
The release was a deliberate swerve, and the audience came with her. Rolling Stone says she opened her headlining set at Lollapalooza on Friday (July 31), the first full-scale performance of the era, with “Rock Music,” and closed it with “No One Lasts Forever,” which features a repeated refrain from the filmmaker David Cronenberg. “I had the best time and I'm so proud of this show,” she wrote on Instagram afterwards.
What's next: the Music, Fashion, Film Tour begins in September with underscores as special guest, per Complex. Charli was later seen bringing Tinashe out at ACL, and she joined Madonna for “Danceteria Afterhours.”
