“I was taking so many pills that I had a security guard whose only job was to watch me sleep and make sure I was breathing,” Travis Barker says in the trailer for Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, the documentary about the Blink-182 drummer’s life after the 2008 plane crash that nearly killed him. The film arrives Friday (Aug. 13) on Hulu and Disney+, following its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival.
Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer co-directed the “unfiltered” 90-minute film, as NME describes it, which Barker says started more than 10 years ago. The trailer, which runs close to three minutes, features Blink bandmates Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge, the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, Questlove, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, Tommy Lee and Kourtney Kardashian, per Billboard. Hoppus and DeLonge describe recruiting him to replace Scott Raynor an hour before a show.

The crash is the center of it. Barker survived a 2008 Learjet crash in South Carolina that killed his assistant Chris “Lil Chris” Baker and bodyguard Charles “Che” Still, along with the pilot and co-pilot, and he suffered burns over 65% of his body and 27 surgeries, according to Billboard. His friend Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein also survived the crash and died a year later of an accidental drug overdose. In the trailer, Barker reflects on survivor’s guilt:
Che and Chris were like brothers to me. And then AM passing away a year later… why am I here, when everyone else isn’t? I had to ask myself who I was gonna be after this accident.

Barker also talked about it on Monday’s episode of On Purpose With Jay Shetty. He told Shetty he knew something wasn’t right on the day of the crash. “All the signs were there,” he said, adding that his daughter Alabama, then three or four years old, seemed to sense it too.
The film is the latest entry in a run of band and artist documentaries. Our look at Linkin Park’s Unshatter covers another comeback story, and KATSEYE’s WILD HEARTS is its pop counterpart. NME notes that Barker has also said Blink-182 are working on a new album.
Barker described the film as “an unfiltered look at my journey after a life-changing experience” that “spotlights the amazing people I have in my life who carried me through it.” It streams on Hulu in the U.S., through the Hulu on Disney+ bundle, and on Disney+ internationally from Aug. 13.
