Summer Game Fest has never been shy about volume, and the 2026 showcase on Friday (June 5) was a flood. Game Informer called it “easily one of the most jam-packed SGF showcases in recent years,” and the two-hour broadcast, shown live from Los Angeles, delivered a remake, a trilogy finale and a surprising number of rappers.
The bookends
The show opened with Resident Evil: Veronica, a Code Veronica remake from Capcom that stars Claire Redfield in Paris searching for her brother Chris. It is due in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch 2 and PC. The franchise is also on screens: Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film later passed $125 million at the domestic box office. “Our talented team is hard at work on this ambitious project,” said a puppet on stage, per Video Games Chronicle.
It closed with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and last part of Square Enix’s remake trilogy. It arrives in spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2 and PC at the same time, and its director says its theme is “resolve.” Game Informer adds that the new game lets you skydive from Cid’s airship with no loading screen. Tifa Lockhart also joins Street Fighter 6 as DLC in its fourth year.
Where the music shows up
The crossover most likely to be clipped and shared is Stranger Than Heaven, which got a new trailer and a Jan. 15, 2027 release date. The trailer shows off an in-game Tupac, who joins Snoop Dogg and a slew of other celebrity names in the game, and Snoop appeared on stage to promote it. (Snoop was also tapped to host the 2026 VMAs in September.) The tie-ins kept coming. Wiz Khalifa is the next Elusive Target in Hitman: World of Assassination until July 5, and Lenny Kravitz returns as Bawma in a 007 First Light expansion mission. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced showed a trailer built around a re-recorded “Leave Her Johnny,” the sea shanty from the original game.
The rest of the list
Alien: Isolation 2 has a first trailer, and its creative director said: “It’s been 12 years since we released Alien Isolation, and we’re continuing what we started.” Fumito Ueda’s next game, Gen Atlas, is an Epic Games Store exclusive. PlatinumGames is making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin game, and Studio MDHR announced a Cuphead sequel plus a spin-off called Mighty Cuphead Adventure.
