Gamescom’s Opening Night Live has become a game-trailer grab bag, and the 2026 edition on Tuesday (Aug. 25) was no exception. Geoff Keighley’s two-hour show kicked off the annual Cologne convention, which runs Aug. 26 to 30, according to GosuGamers. It was long on new looks and short on shocks. Gfinity said it “lacked the shock factor” but had new footage for many previously revealed games.
The biggest names
The headline was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, set for Sept. 29 on Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC and PlayStation 5, per Windows Central. Owners of a digital copy get the upgrade free. The show closed with the world premiere of Songs of the Past, the last expansion for the game.
Final Fantasy VII: Revelation returned with a new gameplay trailer that shows the Weapons, the boss monsters that will be the game’s toughest challenge, ahead of its spring 2027 release. It followed the first look at Summer Game Fest in June. Mega Man: Dual Override showed Proto Man and a new character, Twinkle Girl, in a gameplay trailer, with release set for 2027.
The music angle
The show was full of musical cues. Control Resonant arrived with a gameplay trailer set to music from The Prodigy and a Sept. 24 release date. Rayman Legends Retold will launch Oct. 1 with a level built around the Macarena, per Windows Central. Hitman: World of Assassination is adding a new Elusive Target, The Herbalist, played by Snoop Dogg, according to GosuGamers. Snoop is also hosting the 2026 VMAs. That follows Wiz Khalifa’s Elusive Target from June. A rhythm game called Stage Tour has a setlist of more than 90 songs, and Mewgenics got a musical performance of “Guillotina” before its Sept. 8 date was announced, Gfinity said.
What else showed up
Silent Hill: Townfall has a Sept. 24 release date, and its English voice cast includes Terry O’Quinn of Lost. Exodus, a *Mass Effect*-style game, now has an April 7, 2027 release date. Path of Exile 2 will leave early access with its 1.0 launch on Dec. 11. Ubisoft revealed Rainbow Six Tactics, a turn-based spin-off for 2027, and a Heroes of Might & Magic 3 remake. Crazy Taxi World Tour showed its multiplayer for the first time, and Turok is back with Turok Origins in spring 2027. A new Game of Thrones: War for Westeros real-time strategy game is due in early 2027.

The next six weeks are crowded. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy arrives Aug. 27, The Blood of Dawnwalker on Sept. 3, Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant on Sept. 24, The Witcher 3 remaster on Sept. 29, Rayman Legends Retold on Oct. 1 and Gears of War: E-Day on Oct. 6, according to Windows Central. The show also arrived two days after the Esports World Cup wrapped in Paris.
