A football game has quietly become one of the broadest festival bills in music. The EA Sports FC 27 soundtrack, revealed this week, packs in 120 tracks from 36 nations, and it runs from indie-rock veterans to UK drum and bass to Latin pop. Early access for the Ultimate editions began Sept. 18, with the worldwide launch on Sept. 25.
EA’s announcement leads with Interpol, The Neighbourhood, The Strokes, The War on Drugs, Royal Blood, Nia Archives, Chase & Status, Little Simz and Barry Can’t Swim. Emerging names include The Itch, Sycco, Bruvvy, Temper City, bed and Rose Gray. There are unreleased songs from Cage The Elephant and Mura Masa, and Sayf’s “TOP OF THE POPS (Red Bull 64 Bars).” The whole thing lives on Spotify.

The full tracklist, published by Official Charts, has deeper cuts worth hunting for. Yung Lean appears with GENER8ION on both halves of “STORM,” the short film that crashed the VMAs. Dahi’s “How To Pray” features Kendrick Lamar and Amber Mark. Other entries include Joji’s “Last of a Dying Breed,” Shygirl’s “Alyse,” Milo J’s “Bajo De La Piel” and a Cypress Hill track with Poe Leos called “Run.” The Latin lineup includes Nicki Nicole, Cazzu, María Becerra, Nathy Peluso and CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso.
The artists’ own reactions are the best part. Kyan’s track “Garage,” with Enzo from the Block and Mu540, is on the list, and he and Enzo became friends through the game, even without a shared language, he said in EA’s release.

Cage The Elephant said they’re thrilled that their new song “Dying In Reverse” will make its debut in the game.
Music is part of the mode, too
This year the soundtrack also has a physical home. FC 27 adds The Grounds, a shared social football playground with three districts based on English, French and Argentinian football culture: Parkside, Montclair and Zeiza. Each has its own curated soundtrack. The mode is limited to some platforms, EA notes.
On mobile, players got a say. FC Mobile ran a vote in September on which of five FC 27 songs to add to that game, with the community’s pick arriving on Oct. 12.
EA’s music chief, Steve Schnur, called it one of the “most globally representative playlists yet.” For a franchise that has been breaking artists into games for more than 20 years, the pitch is the same as ever: a song you meet in the game can become the one you hear all season.
