Virgil Abloh’s Paris office is being rebuilt in New York. Nike and the Virgil Abloh Foundation announced on Monday (Oct. 19) that Virgil Abloh: The Codes will open Dec. 10 at The Shed, the nonprofit cultural center at Hudson Yards, and run through Jan. 18, 2027, according to Nike. The show brings together nearly 1,000 objects, from finished work to prototypes, sketches and archival material, across fashion, footwear, art, architecture, graphic design, music and cultural production.

Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan curate, extending earlier editions in Miami and Paris, where Artnet counted more than 700 objects at the Grand Palais last fall. New York goes bigger. It will recreate Abloh’s office at Pont Neuf and add a media lab with open access to a selection of his raw design files, so visitors can dig into the methods known as his “Codes” for themselves.

As we mark the fifth anniversary of Virgil’s passing, this exhibition is an opportunity to honor his tireless spirit and how he changed the way people think about creativity, collaboration and what is possible.

Music is part of the pitch. Nike’s release lists it among the show’s fields, and the archive behind it is full of it. Reviewing the Paris edition, Artnet said Abloh “wore many hats—painter, furniture designer, costume artist, architect, DJ,” and counted vinyl records and mixtapes among the 20,000 objects in his archive. That show rebuilt his Pont Neuf studio with a set of speakers and DJ decks he designed, and visitors entered through a Colette shop that included crossover pieces with Been Trill, Cactus Plant Flea Market and Travis Scott.

His old label keeps pulling on the same thread: Off-White’s FW26 show in March was a Miles Davis tribute scored in five days by tendai.

A month-long schedule of conversations, performances, workshops and related events will run alongside the show, with details still to come, and a retail experience co-curated by JJJJound founder Justin Saunders will accompany it, Footwear Magazine reports. The announcement lands just over a year after the Paris run, a 10-day show timed to Paris Fashion Week, and as the fifth anniversary of Abloh’s death approaches.

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday (Oct. 23) through The Shed.
