Anthony Vaccarello’s Spring/Summer 2027 menswear opened Paris in a cloud of vapor, and the front row had its own weather.

The hottest ticket on the first day of Paris men’s fashion week was a room full of fog. Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2027 show on Tuesday (June 23) filled the Bourse de Commerce with vapor while the city sat at around 40 degrees, and the best seats went to Madonna, Charli xcx and Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie, who were seated side by side. Dazed said the trio “resembled a gay man’s Mount Rushmore.”

W Magazine reported that the two musicians had each come in a different take on the house’s lace. Madonna, who arrived late with her producer Stuart Price, wore a raspberry-pink minidress made entirely of floral lace with a glossy, latex-like finish, bubblegum satin pumps and tortoiseshell sunglasses. Charli wore a cherry-red leather minidress with a lace bodice, sheer black tights and mauve-brown stilettos. The two hugged in the row, which is the part people noticed: in May, Madonna had captioned an Instagram post, “If your Dance floor feels dead[,] Maybe you’re playing the wrong music,” which fans read as a reply to a lyric on Charli’s single “Rock Music.” Both have albums due in July: Madonna’s Confessions II and Charli’s Music, Fashion, Film.

The rest of the front row dressed for the opposite of the weather. Rami Malek wore a heavy black leather jacket, Yung Lean an ankle-length duster and Storrie a PVC raincoat. Austin Butler, Kate Moss, Arca, Joe Alwyn, Kento Yamazaki and Daisy Edgar-Jones sat nearby.

The fog was a work of art: Fujiko Nakaya’s Cloud #07156, a vapor installation that kept filling the room, so that models walked in and out of it and disappeared. The collection was built on leaving things out. Vaccarello’s show notes describe a rejection of “our constant need for more drama, more noise, more attention,” and his muses were the writer Marguerite Duras, the designer Tina Chow and Patricia Highsmith’s Mr. Ripley. On the runway that meant blazers with no shirt, waistcoats with a necktie, and shirts so sheer they left only a hazy outline of the torso, in stone, grey, black, brown and beige.

The last looks arrived in gold, glowing through the thickening fog. Vaccarello described the idea as “a transformation of the utilitarian trench into something extraordinary while remaining practical,” per Dazed. The designer’s next Paris show, in September, would turn out to be his last at the house.
