Shygirl Announces *Swallow!*, Her First Album in Four Years, and Shares “Lucky (Hymn)”

The follow-up to 2022’s *Nymph* is a “reintroduction” built with Karma Kid and Casey MQ, out Nov. 6, led by a trip-hop-flavored single and a video shot as one unbroken take.

Shygirl is done with the club-rat reputation, or at least done being defined by it. On Thursday (Sept. 10), the British artist announced Swallow!, her long-awaited second album, due Nov. 6 via Because Music, and shared its new single, “Lucky (Hymn),” with a video shot to look like a single unbroken take.

Pitchfork describes the song as being about coming into your own. The FADER hears something softer than her usual sound: a trip-hoppy sheen, jangling acoustic guitar and breathily layered vocals. The video, directed by Austen Taylor Pease, puts a person tied to a chair in a homely kitchen, threatened by kidnappers, until Shygirl briefly replaces them.

A “reintroduction”

The label calls the record a reset. “Shygirl calls Swallow! a reintroduction,” the press release reads, as quoted by Pitchfork. It adds:

During sporadic, unhurried sessions, Karma Kid made everything maximalist, while Casey MQ fine-tuned the delicate moments. Shygirl realized she didn’t need to leave her electronic roots behind to find something new.

The FADER says the album was inspired by new love and leans into romantic indie songwriting, and that recording began shortly after Nymph. “Lucky (Hymn)” follows “Alyse,” released in August, which opens the 11-song tracklist. Another club-pop favorite, Slayyyter, put out new music the same day.

Why it matters

It has been four years since Nymph, and Shygirl hasn’t stood still. She released two EPs, 2024’s Club Shy and 2025’s Club Shy Room 2, collaborated with artists from PinkPantheress to Saweetie, got a Björk cosign and opened for Charli xcx on the Sweat tour, per Pitchfork. A guitar-led pivot from one of London’s most distinctive club voices is a real swerve, and the first proof of what she means by starting over.

What’s next

Swallow! is out Nov. 6. The tracklist runs “Alyse,” “Lucky (Hymn),” “Luvli,” “Submit,” “Live the Life You Like,” “Real,” “Déjà Vu,” “Mantra,” “Altar,” “Sublime” and “Eternal.”
