Owen Wilson is the dad who lost his kid at the hip-hop festival, and Travis Scott is the one who consoles him. That is the pitch of Rolling Loud, the comedy whose first teaser trailer arrived Tuesday (May 19) from Live Nation and the festival, after an exclusive look for fans at Rolling Loud Orlando earlier this month.
Wilson plays what the promotional copy calls a “by-the-book dad trying way too hard to be a cool dad,” per Pitchfork. He brings his teenage son, played by Christian Convery, to the festival and loses him in the crush. Directed by Jeremy Garelick, the film was shot during Rolling Loud Miami 2024, where Billboard says Wilson is dropped into a sea of 60,000 fans outside Hard Rock Stadium.
Watch the teaser above. Backstage, Wilson runs into Matt Rife, Sexyy Red, Ski Mask the Slump God and Ty Dolla $ign, and then Travis Scott, who plays himself. The line that has people talking is Scott’s pep talk, which Pitchfork transcribes as “The lengths that you go to to find your kid, it’s like some superhero, super-father [expletive].” Wilson’s answer is the joke: “Appreciate you saying that, Travis Scott.”

The scenario has a real origin. Garelick told Complex the idea came from a real scare.
This all started from the chaos of me bringing my son to Rolling Loud in LA, three years ago. I took him to Rolling Loud LA and then lost him, and he was only 13.

The cameo has a real precedent too. Wilson told Zane Lowe in 2025 that Scott brought him out during his Rolling Loud performance of “FE!N.” “It was scary going up there,” he said, adding that “my two boys were there, and I think it helped having them there because I knew I couldn’t back out of it.”
The film also lines up with a busy month for the festival’s regulars. Sexyy Red played Rolling Loud Orlando and, in the same stretch, appears on Drake’s new Maid of Honour, where Pitchfork hears her interpolating the “Cha Cha Slide” on “Cheetah Print.” In Orlando, Complex reports, Ken Carson closed the festival with a star-packed set that brought out Lil Tecca, Young Thug, Destroy Lonely and Playboi Carti. The people who make the lineup are, in other words, now in the movie.
Rolling Loud arrives exclusively in U.S. theaters on Oct. 2 through American High, Live Nation Studios and Ketchup Entertainment. The cast also includes Henry Winkler and Christine Ko.
