The final trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrived Monday (April 6) with a surprise under the montage: a brand-new song by Lady Gaga and Doechii called “Runway,” named for the fictional fashion magazine Miranda Priestly rules. Gaga sings the hook, “You were born for the runway,” and Doechii raps the verses.
Doechii’s lines are unmistakably hers. “Serve a little sass with a little side of ass,” she raps, and “Do a little twirl, let ’em know that I’m that girl.” Gaga’s part in the trailer is a run of affirmations, Rolling Stone noted: “I’m feeling fab, I’m feeling free, I feel exceptionally.” Pitchfork’s update after the full release on April 9 describes it as a house-pop track co-produced by Andrew Watt and Bruno Mars that opens with Eddie Murphy’s Sherman Klump in The Nutty Professor saying, “No matter what, no matter what…you’ve got to strut.”
The mutual admiration
It is not a random pairing. Gaga told British Vogue last year of Doechii, “You don’t often see someone come out of the gate with a pen that feels immediately legendary. That’s Doechii to me.” Doechii told People she “audibly gasped” when she heard that. “I’m the biggest Lady Gaga fan,” she said, adding that “when you meet Lady Gaga, she naturally has an essence about her.”

Both arrive fresh from the 2026 Grammys, per Pitchfork: Gaga’s Mayhem won Best Pop Vocal Album and Doechii’s “Anxiety” won Best Music Video. Doechii would later join the Lauryn Hill tribute at the BET Awards.
Why it matters
Gaga was already confirmed for a cameo in the sequel, which Variety reported in October, and the song makes her part of the film’s sound as well as its cast. The Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in a changed magazine industry, with Runway diminished compared with its former glory, per Rolling Stone. It reaches theaters May 1.
It also puts Gaga back on a big screen after Joker: Folie à Deux, whose companion album, Harlequin, she recorded.
