Kid Rock has found Jesus, and he has brought Eminem with him. Halfway 2 Jesus, a 17-track Christian rock album due Oct. 17, lists the Detroit rapper as a guest on “7 Sins,” their first recorded collaboration in years, according to HotNewHipHop.

Rock shared the cover and tracklist on X on Thursday (Oct. 1). The artwork shows him partway up a mountain toward a glowing crucifix with the devil close behind, Billboard noted. The first single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” arrived the same day with a video in which Rock is bathed in holy light, then dropped back on stage in a Tupac T-shirt in front of a gospel choir. Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts and Jimmie Allen appear on the title track, and the album closes with a cover of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.”

According to Complex, which saw a sneak peek of the album’s foreword, Rock frames the Eminem track as a statement about staying friends across a divide.

I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem. His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all.

The politics are real. Rock has spent years as one of Donald Trump’s most visible celebrity allies, while Eminem told Trump-supporting fans in a 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards cypher, “I’m drawing in the sand a line,” and appeared at a Detroit rally for Kamala Harris in 2024, HotNewHipHop recalled. That same year Rock said he disagreed with Eminem’s politics but still gave him credit for “standing up and not being afraid to be vocal for that which they believe.” Eminem’s reply stayed on the field: “Here’s one thing @KidRock and I do agree on… GO @Lions!!!! Appreciate you, Bob.”

The two go back to Rock’s 1998 breakthrough Devil Without a Cause, which included “F**k Off” with Eminem, and Rock later turned up in the video for Eminem’s 2013 single “Berzerk.” When the Shadyverse fan account posted the news, Complex reported, commenters wondered whether the feature was real or an older verse that Rock was only now using. None of the outlets reported a comment from Eminem or his team.

Rolling Stone flagged a different guest: Allen, who it said was ordered this summer to pay nearly $2 million in damages after being found liable for sexual assault in a civil case. Allen denied the allegations in court, and a rep for Rock did not immediately answer Rolling Stone’s request for comment.

Rock told Fox & Friends in August that the project grew out of a long search. “It’s kind of this spiritual journey I’ve been on and I’ve had a calling through James 1:17,” he said, pointing to his middle name and his Jan. 17 birthday. Halfway 2 Jesus is his first album since 2022’s Bad Reputation, and it arrives Oct. 17.
