McQueen’s return to London looked like a rave in a church crypt. On Sunday (Sept. 20), Seán McGirr staged the house’s first mainline London show in more than 25 years in the vaulted undercroft of Lincoln’s Inn Chapel, AnOther reports, where a live choir called Shard Voices sang between the pillars and the models walked with their hair gelled into devilish horns.
The house had spent 25 years showing in Paris, Dazed notes. McGirr, who has lived in London since he was 17, framed the move as a return to the label’s roots rather than a break with France.
It’s not about leaving Paris, but it is about returning to the roots.

He built the collection from two London reference points: the National Gallery’s 15th-century Baptism of Christ by Piero della Francesca, which he studied as a Central Saint Martins student, and the city’s nightlife. The show notes called the result “finding synergy between the sacred and the subcultural,” per Dazed. Gowns carried billowing panniers like wings, embroidered with silver or handmade organza feathers in a dusty palette flashed with phosphorescent pink, blue and green, and McGirr cut jackets with sleeves that evoke angel wings. AnOther likened the horned hair partly to the Prodigy’s Keith Flint.

Dazed called Siouxsie Sioux “the real guest of honour,” given how often Lee McQueen used her music. Florence Welch, Emma Corrin, Sophie Thatcher, Jamie Campbell Bower and Salma Hayek sat front row. Savile Row tailor Huntsman, which made McQueen’s own clothes, collaborated on the tailoring, and longtime McQueen collaborator Shaun Leane made new pieces, including a solid-silver harness that Karen Elson wore.

McQueen himself, born in Lewisham and raised in Stratford, always credited the city. The line Dazed pulls from him fits the night.
London is where I was brought up. It’s where my heart is and where I get my inspiration.
