The Notorious B.I.G. has a face in Snoop Dogg’s biopic, and it comes with a lineage. SwayvoTwain, the 29-year-old recording artist born Michael D’Angelo Archer II to the late D’Angelo and Angie Stone, has been cast as Biggie in Universal’s Snoop, Variety first reported on Tuesday (Sept. 8).
He confirmed it on Instagram with a nod to the opening bars of “Juicy”:
It’s all good baby, BABYYY

It is his first major acting role. Rolling Stone says he had a small part in the 2022 streaming film Strictly for the Streets Vol. 2 and has released music as SwayvoTwain for years. Billboard notes that his last single, “HookahSmoke,” arrived in February.
The rest of the cast
The same announcement adds G Perico as Big Reecie Cup, the Long Beach figure who guided Snoop’s rise, and Bentley Green as RBX, Snoop’s cousin who signed to Death Row. They join Jonathan Daviss, of Outer Banks, as Snoop, with Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight, Lauren London as Snoop’s mother Beverly Tate and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Shante Broadus.

Craig Brewer, of Hustle & Flow, directs from a script treatment by Joe Robert Cole, per Pitchfork. Snoop produces alongside Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker, and the film is the first theatrical release under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal.
Why it matters
Snoop and Biggie sat on opposite sides of the East Coast-West Coast rivalry, but Rolling Stone points out they respected each other. Snoop once told Fatman Scoop that he and Tha Dogg Pound “fucked with Biggie and we liked Biggie.” After Biggie’s death in March 1997, Snoop appeared on all three of his posthumous albums, per Billboard. How big the role will be is unclear.
Universal also made 2015’s Straight Outta Compton, in which Lakeith Stanfield played Snoop. This time Snoop is the lead.
