The cryptic billboard, the one-word post and the missing surname were all pointing here. On Tuesday (Sept. 1), Miley Cyrus announced her 10th studio album, Bass Persuades, and confirmed she is now going by simply Miley. The record arrives Sept. 18 via Atlantic, only a year and change after Something Beautiful.
The cover is a black-and-white portrait of her from the shoulders up, a rose clamped in her teeth. She shared it on Instagram with a note on the title:
Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong.

The tracklist runs 10 songs, opening with the title track and including “Different Religion,” featuring the New York band Model/Actriz, and “Neon Signs,” featuring Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow. It closes with “Bass Persuades Remixx.” A 30-second trailer shows her swinging a Fender Stratocaster over a synth-driven dance track, and Rolling Stone noted that no single has been released yet. Her label says the era will honor the influence of her godmother, Dolly Parton.
Why it matters
Cyrus has barely paused since Something Beautiful. She released a deluxe edition with David Byrne and Lindsey Buckingham, wrote an original song for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash and staged a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special. The new name fits a reset: Billboard noted that her social handle quietly dropped “Cyrus” days before the announcement, and that the campaign began as she mourned Parton, who died recently at 80.

It also marks a real return to the stage. Cyrus has rarely toured in recent years, and Rolling Stone counts the two Hollywood Bowl nights, Oct. 16 and 18, as her first full U.S. concerts since 2021, with Model/Actriz opening. She wrote on Instagram that she has “sat in those seats many times, but I’ve never taken the stage. L.A. is my heart and I’m bringing it home.”
What’s next
The Hollywood Bowl presales start the week of Sept. 8, and general sale opens Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. PT through Ticketmaster. Something Beautiful peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, and before that came the Grammy-winning “Flowers.” Pre-orders and pre-saves for Bass Persuades are open now.
