Kid Cudi has pulled M.I.A. off his Rebel Ragers Tour just four shows into the run. The trigger was her set on Saturday (May 2) at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, where fans said she made remarks about politics and immigration that drew boos from the crowd.

Cudi announced the decision on Monday (May 4) in an Instagram Story. “TOUR UPDATE: M.I.A is no longer on this tour,” he wrote. He said he had asked his management to tell her team before the tour began that he didn’t want anything offensive at his shows.

After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase.

What M.I.A. said that night is partly a matter of fan reports. Rolling Stone, citing Variety, says she told the Dallas crowd, “I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.” Complex notes that some remarks were described by fans in attendance and did not appear in the footage that circulated online. M.I.A. has since disputed how part of her set was characterized, saying she introduced her song “Illygirl” by saying she was “illygal” and that her team was still waiting on visas.

She added, “I don’t need this virtue signal era to all of a sudden erase an entire life I’ve led.” She had just released a new album, M.I.7, in April. The FADER describes it as shaped by her deepened Christian faith.

The Rebel Ragers Tour opened April 28 in Phoenix and was booked for 33 shows through the end of June. M.I.A. was one of the openers alongside Big Boi, A-Trak, me n ü and Dot Da Genius. No replacement has been announced.

The tour carries on regardless. Cudi also canceled Tuesday’s show in Birmingham, Alabama, writing that “the ticket sales just weren’t strong enough,” though he called the run so far “fantastic” and said the rest would go on as scheduled. Next up are Atlanta on Wednesday (May 6) and Tampa Bay on Friday (May 8).
