DJ Envy went to both New Jersey stops of Usher and Chris Brown's R&B Tour, and on Monday (Aug. 10) he put his verdict on the air. Brown, he told listeners of The Breakfast Club, is the greatest performer he has ever seen, and his co-hosts weren't buying it. Billboard has the quotes.
To me, Chris Brown is the greatest performer ever. To me, yes, he's better than Michael Jackson.

Co-hosts Loren Lorosa and Jess Hilarious pushed back, and Envy doubled down. His case rests on the dancing: Brown can do what Michael Jackson does, Envy said, “and he can add acro to it,” and, in Envy's telling, he flies in the air for 30 minutes and does not stop dancing. It is one broadcaster's opinion, offered after two nights in the building. Hear the argument on the show's full episode below, around the two-minute mark.
What he saw
Envy was at MetLife Stadium on Aug. 7 and 8, shows Billboard says turned into a star-studded affair, with 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Method Man, Ashanti, Fat Joe and Jadakiss all joining Brown and Usher on stage. The tour continued that week in Toronto before Boston, Chicago and San Francisco to finish August.
Why it matters
The R&B Tour launched June 26 in Denver and is a 33-date stadium run, per Complex. It doesn't work like a conventional opener-and-headliner bill: Brown and Usher share the show, with room for solo sets and collaborations, and Mario, Tank and Eric Bellinger as supporting acts.

Brown, for his part, has never claimed the comparison. In a September 2025 Instagram Story, per Billboard, he wrote that “Michael Jackson will forever be the GOAT and that's not even arguable.” His own numbers are strong enough: Billboard counts 125 Hot 100 entries and says all 12 of his solo studio albums have peaked in the Billboard 200's top 10.
The tour's scale also created a side conversation. Singer Jacquees, who credits Brown as a mentor, told Streetz Morning Takeover that he declined a spot on the bill because he wasn't going to sing background. “I ain't singing background. I want my own slot,” he said, adding that he will attend as a fan.
What's next: Toronto, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, which round out the tour's August dates.
