Kylie Minogue spent decades letting the music do the talking. In the first trailer for Kylie, Netflix’s three-part documentary series, she changes the deal. “They’re convincing me to let you in,” she says over archival footage that stretches from her Neighbours days to the stage, per Rolling Stone. The series arrives on Netflix May 20.

The trailer, released Tuesday (May 5), blends newly recorded commentary with decades of film-set moments, live performances and home scenes. It is largely soundtracked by her 2010 hit “All the Lovers,” and the 57-year-old looks back at the pressures of global fame and her widely publicized 2005 breast cancer diagnosis. Her sister Dannii, ex-boyfriend Jason Donovan and producer Peter Waterman appear, and so does Nick Cave, who invited her onto his 1995 hit “Where the Wild Roses Grow.”

Billboard says the clip crams almost 40 years of career into two and a half minutes, and that it moves quickly from glamour, including photos of Minogue with her ex Michael Hutchence of INXS, to the health scare and the critics who followed her for years. In it, Cave offers his description of her:

Dannii Minogue says of her sister’s illness, “We didn’t know if she was ever going to be well again,” and Kylie answers with the line the series seems to be built on:

Kylie is directed by Michael Harte, whose credits include Three Identical Strangers and Netflix’s Beckham, and produced by John Battsek’s Ventureland, the company behind the Beckham and Wham! documentaries. Deadline reports it uses her personal archives, home movies and photographs, along with new interviews, to show how she has “faced public scrutiny, personal loss and illness” and reinvented herself, and pop itself, several times.

The timing fits a victory lap. Minogue is one of Australia’s best-selling artists, with more than 80 million records sold worldwide, 18 ARIA Awards and two Grammys, and a 2024 Global Icon Award at the BRITs, where she became only the second woman to win it after Taylor Swift in 2021. She follows her 2025 Tension Tour and will headline the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne on Sept. 26. Her 2001 hit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” also ranked second on Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s list of the best Australian and New Zealand songs of the 21st century so far.

Netflix has been leaning into pop documentaries this spring, and the BTS comeback livestream showed how many people will turn up for one. Next up for Minogue fans: the three-part series on May 20.
