Starz canceled Blindspotting in 2023. On Tuesday (Oct. 20), both seasons of the show start streaming on Netflix in the U.S., and there’s a new trailer to mark it, Complex reports. Lionsgate’s YouTube channel posted the trailer Monday. Watch it below.

The series is a spinoff of the 2018 film that Casal and Daveed Diggs wrote, produced and starred in. It picks up six months later and follows Ashley (Jasmine Cephas Jones), whose partner, Miles, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to move in with his mother (Helen Hunt) and half-sister (Jaylen Barron), per What’s on Netflix. It runs 16 episodes over two seasons, both at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes per What’s on Netflix, and blends comedy-drama with spoken-word poetry and dance. E-40 and LeVar Burton guest star.

Music is a big part of the pitch, and Diggs and Casal said so in a statement released for the Netflix arrival:

[Blindspotting] is pure art to us, everything about it is so intentional. We put our heart and soul into making it drenched in Bay Area needle drops, inside jokes, local references, music, dance—you name it.

Complex says the film set out to bring Oakland to life through verse, and Cephas Jones called the series a “love letter to Oakland” when she talked to the outlet in 2021. The pair see Netflix as a second chance. “Our show didn’t get slept on; most people never knew it existed,” they said. “But Netflix is the perfect place to discover it for the first time, or come home and visit Ashley and the fam again.”

Blindspotting is the latest Lionsgate and Starz title headed to Netflix’s U.S. library. What’s on Netflix lists Hightown among the earlier pickups, with Party Down and the 50 Cent-produced Power lined up. Netflix’s other music-licensing story this month: Greta Gerwig’s Narnia trailer got Led Zeppelin to approve “Stairway to Heaven”.

Don’t wait too long. What’s on Netflix reports that Starz stints on the service usually last around two years.
