The singer of “Golden” walked back up the aisle to Stevie Wonder. EJAE, the singing voice of Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters, married producer Samuel Kim on Saturday (Oct. 17) in Seoul, Billboard reports, citing the interview and photo gallery that Vogue published on Monday (Oct. 19).
The weekend began the day before with a Paebaek ceremony and welcome party at Congdu50, a Korean fusion restaurant with views over Seoul. Paebaek is a centuries-old tradition that welcomes a bride into the groom’s family, and it normally follows the wedding; EJAE and Kim held theirs first. “Not everyone does Paebaek, but we wanted to have that traditional element as part of our wedding,” she told Vogue.

On Saturday they exchanged vows at Stage 28, a venue built on the former residence site of EJAE’s maternal grandfather, the veteran actor Shin Young-kyun, per SBS. Her brother also married there. “I spent much of my childhood exploring the garden and walking with my grandfather in the hills behind the house,” EJAE said. The reception was held in the venue’s glasshouse.

Music ran through the whole day. Kim entered to D’Angelo’s “Really Love,” the couple walked back up the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life,” and their first dance was to Nat King Cole’s “Sentimental Reasons,” according to EJAE’s photo captions for Vogue. A band called After Eight played the reception. “Sam and I chose the music together,” she wrote. Her KPop Demon Hunters collaborators Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, who performed “Golden” with her at the Oscars, were among the guests, per Vogue and SBS. Hear the song below.
It started with a song, too. A friend set the pair up for a songwriting session at Kim’s home studio in May 2017. “We worked on a couple of songs, but mostly, we just connected,” EJAE told Vogue. Kim proposed on June 1, 2025, at a picnic their friends staged in a Brooklyn park. Then the film arrived. “Our lives changed completely,” she said.
They had planned a November wedding in California, but moved it up to October and to Korea. “That left us about four months to plan everything,” EJAE told Vogue. It was a no-phones wedding, and guests got disposable film cameras; she wrote that the couple will develop the film and share the pictures.
“Golden” went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 and win the Oscar for best original song. A KPop Demon Hunters sequel is confirmed but has no release date, and Netflix says it will play theaters first. For now, EJAE has a simpler review of the weekend: “Honestly, we are so proud that we had fun at our wedding!”
