Amelia Dimoldenberg is ending Chicken Shop Date. The host announced on Thursday (Sept. 3) that the next season will be the last, closing a 12-year run of flirty, deadpan interviews that turned a London chicken shop into the most awkward room in celebrity media.

She made the announcement on Instagram with a photo of fried chicken and a note on a checkered napkin that read “All good dates must come to an end.” In a statement she said it is time to “move on from this adventure and onto the next one,” per Pitchfork.

What happened?

There is no end date yet. Complex reports that she plans one more round of interviews, with the caption promising “a few final dates… Coming very soon.” She hasn’t said who the guests are or when they land.

To me the show is my very own romcom and I have loved creating so many stories for you to watch.

How did it start?

Dimoldenberg founded the show at 17, as a print column for a London youth magazine called The Cut (no relation to the New York title) that was run out of a youth center in northwest London, according to Pitchfork. Her focus was grime. When the column became a web series, her offbeat style got her access to the genre’s biggest names.

Publicists noticed the show’s easy, cross-generational appeal, and a broader swath of musicians followed. Film press soon joined in. “When I was 17 I had a fantastic idea that I might meet the love of my life in a chicken shop,” she wrote in the farewell, and she has spent her twenties sitting across from the guests she once dreamed of meeting.

Why did it work?

The formula was spontaneity and discomfort. She asked acerbic, flirty questions in a flat voice and let the silences do the comedy, which jolted guests off their publicity scripts. Complex remembers Kehlani breaking down sapphic terminology and Jack Harlow awkwardly explaining what a “little library” is. The guests run from Paul McCartney and Billie Eilish to Sabrina Carpenter, Dave, Andrew Garfield and Jennifer Lawrence.

The series is often compared with Hot Ones, and Complex notes that Sean Evans and Dimoldenberg have each appeared on the other’s show. Tubefilter points out that the series hasn’t outlived its popularity: YouTube pushed it as one of its 2024 “For Your Consideration” shows.

What does it mean for her career?

The show made Dimoldenberg a household name and a business. She produces it through her Dimz Inc. label and has landed brand partnerships with Olay, a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and a place on the TIME100 Creators list, Complex says. She has also interviewed on the Golden Globes red carpet and from the passenger seat of F1 cars, per Tubefilter.

The next chapter is scripted. Dimoldenberg is developing a young adult drama for the BBC, which she described at the Edinburgh TV Festival as “my version of Skins,” and a romcom film for Orion Pictures, Deadline notes via Pitchfork. A 2022 representation deal with CAA pointed the way.

The timeline

A quick run through the show’s arc, drawn from the outlets’ reporting: 2014, the first column and the start of the web series; 2022, a representation deal with CAA that signaled bigger ambitions; 2024, YouTube’s awards push for the series; early 2026, an Adobe creative-skills program launched with Dimz Inc. at Sundance; Sept. 3, 2026, the farewell post.

It lands in a month when internet-born stars are being handed mainstream platforms, from Druski’s TIME100 Next cover to Dimoldenberg’s own move into scripted TV. The difference is that she is choosing to stop while the show is still a hit, and she’s doing it on her terms.

What’s next?

The final dates are the thing to watch for. Dimoldenberg hasn’t named a release date or any guests, but Complex says the new run is “coming very soon.” After that, the napkin has the last word.
