Five Nights at Freddy’s was a hit for Blumhouse, and the YouTuber who spent years dissecting its lore has been hired to find the next one. On Friday (Oct. 9), at the studio’s Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con, Jason Blum announced a multi-project deal with Matthew “MatPat” Patrick, Variety reports. Patrick was moderating the panel.
The first project is a movie of Amanda the Adventurer, the indie puzzle-horror series from MANGLEDmaw Games and publisher DreadXP. Patrick and Blum are producing, along with Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald. They’re in talks with writers and directors, and Variety says more details are coming soon.

If you haven’t played it: you’re Riley Park, who inherits a reclusive aunt’s house and finds a stack of VHS tapes in the attic. They hold episodes of a low-budget, early-2000s children’s cartoon about a little girl named Amanda and her shy best friend, Wooly the Sheep. It looks charming until Amanda and Wooly start talking to Riley through the TV. The first game came out in April 2023, and the third arrived in November 2025, per Steam.
Patrick’s pitch is about visibility. He said he’s taking some of his favorite indie games and horror channels and pairing them with Blumhouse.
We are giving them the spotlight that they deserve.

He has earned the credibility. Kotaku credits his Game Theory videos with helping turn Five Nights at Freddy’s into a phenomenon, and says his popularity helped mold a bankable style of mascot horror, alongside series like Poppy’s Playtime, Baldi and Bendy. Patrick has also had voice roles and cameos in the Blumhouse Five Nights at Freddy’s films, per Variety and Kotaku. This time, he’s on the producing side.
It’s also a data point for how internet culture now works. A YouTube explainer channel is a development pipeline, and the people who decode a game’s lore are being asked to pick the next one. Blumhouse hasn’t named the next game, but one is already off the table. When someone in the New York crowd yelled for Slender Man, Patrick shut it down.
That ship has sailed my friend.
